Courses Offered

Plumber/Pipefitters fabricate, remodel and repair all classes of piping systems.

This program is registered with the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, and Apprentice registration is strongly encouraged.

The national JATC curriculum has been adopted by the local sponsors and adherence to this and all other registering and licensing bodies must be strictly followed.

An apprentice must have the approval of the JATC before registering for classes.

The College provides classroom-related and supplemental instruction for apprenticeship programs.

Classes are held in the days, evenings, and Saturdays, depending on the program.

The College neither provides on-the-job training nor acts as a sponsor for apprentices.

Individuals must locate their own sponsors.

For individual industry-sponsored programs, students should contact their employers’ training director or the Apprenticeship Office.

You will read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine the layout of plumbing systems, water supply networks and waste and drainage systems.

As a plumber, you will design, install, troubleshoot, and repair plumbing systems, fixtures, piping equipment, and controls.

These piping systems may be used to transport water, gases, or hot liquids.

Plumbers work in cooperation with other building professionals to ensure the project meets all specifications, code, and safety requirements to ensure efficient completion of any project.

The Plumber Apprentice program offers something for anyone who likes working in a hands-on environment.

Students work with residential and commercial systems, doing everything from design to install.

By completing the program, apprentices are well on their way to becoming a journeyman or even a master plumber.

The Plumbing Apprenticeship program is excellent for those individuals who have an interest in expanding their knowledge as it relates to their individual trade.

Plumbing Apprenticeship students in the State of Utah will receive training in national and state codes, material requirements, practical mathematics required in the trade, and other essential subject areas.

The Plumbing Apprenticeship program is composed of two parts:

  • On-the-job training provided by a sponsor who exposes the apprentice to practical applications in all phases of a particular craft
  • Classroom-related instruction designed to provide the apprentice with knowledge of theoretical and technical aspects of their craft.

Total completion of an apprenticeship program will take up to four years, depending upon the level of licensure.

Courses are divided into two 90-hour sessions beginning in August and ending in December, then beginning again in January and ending in April.
